Families and Carers

Helping you to find balance

We work with you by ...

Arranging for the person you care for to be supported at home while you are out spending time with family, shopping or other social activities.

Supporting the person you care for to be more connected within their local community, including meeting new people, catching up with friends, learning new skills and developing new interests.

Some activities can include learning how to play a musical instrument, going to a sporting match, or joining a local gardening group.

When you experience things, you learn the different parts of life that you want to get into.” – Carer

What you can expect

annecto works with carers to older people (65+ years, or 50+ years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders), people living with dementia, and people living with disability.

You can expect flexible ways to have a break, and to do the things you want to do. We listen and plan with you to find out what’s important to you. You might like to develop new interests and hobbies, work as a volunteer, connect with family and friends, and generally get out and enjoy your local community.

Everyone has struggles and challenges. We’re all working to be the best person we can.” – Carer

Some of the activity groups available include:

• Out and about – the person you care for will visit places of interest and community events around Melbourne, and have lunch together

• Men’s Shed – held at the Peter Lalor Centre in Lalor, the person you care for will meet other men in theirr age group and brush up on their skills playing snooker, billiards and darts, work on woodwork projects, and enjoy conversations

• Art Therapy – the person you care for will experience craft, painting, colouring, flower making and other artistic mediums. They’ll keep their hands, mind and creative expression flowing, and enjoy the company and conversation of fellow participants

• Choir – the well-known ‘Songbirds Choir’ provides music therapy for older people experiencing dementia, memory loss, depression or social isolation. No music ability required. A variety of music is explored from all cultures

• Cultural groups – the person you care for can get together with others who speak their native language, and enjoy the company of others who know their culture. We currently run Italian and Spanish speaking groups with support workers who speak the language, and visit places of interest.

Providing support for carers in rural and remote locations

annecto recognises the special needs of those carers living in rural and remote locations. It’s not always easy for carers and the people they care for to travel long distances to receive much needed respite.

We provide flexible in-home overnight respite for carers in and around Mildura who are currently providing care for older people or people who have dementia.

We also offer cottage style accommodation for carers and the people they care for to stay together. During their stay carers will have the opportunity to engage in the many activities on offer in Mildura, and to feel reassured that during their absence the people they care for will receive the best possible care and support from our trained staff.

Pindari Avenue

Pindari supports families by providing positive experiences for people with disability and a break for carers and parents.

Pindari Avenue Respite Service is out-of-home respite, where the person receives support in a home-like environment or attends a service or activity, such as holiday camps and short trips.

Carers and parents can use Pindari Respite Service on a short-term basis, for an overnight stay, or weekends and longer stays on request and availability.

Pindari enables people with disability to enjoy their experiences while staying in respite. Carers can be assured that annecto offers flexible support to ensure that individual needs are met and respected.

Thank you so very very much for the fabulous holiday my daughter has just had at Halls Gap. She hasn't stopped talking about the kangaroos, the drives, the walks, the swimming, and the meals. It wasn't just a holiday for my daughter, it was a break for me and for that I am eternally grateful.” - JM
Thank you to all at Pindari who over the past twelve months have shown care and concern for my son during his stay there. He absolutely loves going to Pindari, as evidenced by the delight shown when advised he will be having a weekend there. As well as the time-out from the family, he loves the interaction with the other people staying there. I know I am leaving him in good hands. These breaks certainly lighten my load.” - BV
