Carer Support

Support for individuals and families who need a break

The Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) builds on the strengths of previous home support programs and consolidates four programs nationally, creating a streamlined source of support for older people living in the community, and their carers.

annecto is funded through Carer Relationship and Carer Support Sub-program and also the Community and Home Support Sub-Program, providing entry level home support for older members of our community who need assistance to continue living independently.

CHSP provides funding for you, your carer and your family to take a break, spend time with your family and friends, or continue to participate in social activities and community life.

Operating from a social inclusion and human rights perspective, annecto assists people with a disability, older people and their families to engage and participate in their community with the aim of living good lives in a home of their choice.

Our approach allows people from different backgrounds the opportunity to access the support they need. We believe that people should have the same rights, choices and opportunities, regardless of age, race, sex, disability, sexuality, religious or political beliefs.

We recognise everyone has their own story and offer flexible support options to suit everyone’s unique circumstances.

annecto will work with you to understand what you and your families want to achieve through your support package. Together we will develop a service plan that responds to your needs and enables you to achieve the things you want to do.

No matter what stage of life you’re at, meeting people and doing the things you enjoy is always important. Having regular social outings on your weekly calendar is a great way to maintain physical and mental wellbeing.

annecto offers a wide range of group activities tailored to what’s important to you.

Let us organise everything, from morning tea and lunch to transport, so you can focus on enjoying yourself. Experience what life has to offer and meet like-minded people along the way.

The groups

Out and about – you’ll visit places of interest and community events around Melbourne, and have lunch together.

Art Therapy – experience craft, painting, colouring, flower making and other artistic mediums. You’ll keep your hands, your mind and creative expression flowing, and you’ll enjoy the company and conversation of your fellow participants.

Men’s Shed – held at the Peter Lalor Centre in Lalor, you’ll meet other men in your age group and brush up on your skills playing snooker, billiards and darts, work on woodwork projects, and enjoy conversations.

Choir – the well-known ‘Songbirds Choir’ provides music therapy for older people experiencing dementia, memory loss, depression or social isolation. No music ability required. A variety of music is explored from all cultures.

Cultural groups – get together with others who speak your native language, and enjoy the company of others who know your culture. We currently run Italian and Spanish speaking groups with support workers who speak the language, and pick you up and take you to places of interest.

Please note that the CHSP service only operates in the Northern and Western Region of metropolitan Melbourne.
